Continuing Medical Education
AMS Continuing Medical Education (CME) division is responsible for recommending to the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) the accreditation of CME programmes for specialists. Apart from assisting SMC in the recommendation of Core and Non-core CME points for specialist CME activities, it also recommends the claims submitted by fellows, which would include attendances at overseas events, contributions in medical publications and other self study activities.

LIST OF PRE-ACCREDITED CME ACTIVITIES FOR CATEGORIES 1A / 1B / 1C / 2 / 3A / 3B
The sample calendars comprised of a list of pre-accredited Core activities compiled by specialty for the 35 registered specialties. They are compiled annually together with the College Presidents and Chapter Chairperson, and are then submitted to the SMC for approval. The sample calendars serve as a guide to fellows on the recommended CME activities and journals so that they can better plan and meet their CME core requirements.

Distance Learning Programme (DLP)
DLP was developed by Academy of Medicine, Singapore in November 2005 as an alternative to assist fellows to meet their CME requirements. Fellows can access the DLP online modules at their own time and pace and be accredited with CME points for each module passed. The modules are formulated based on peer-reviewed articles from refereed journals, e.g. Annals of Academy of Medicine, Singapore or case presentations.

The format for each module is 5 MCQs and each question will have 4 optional answers (one of which is the correct answer). 2 CME points (core or non-core) will be awarded to each participant based on their specialty once they have passed a module. The passing rate for each module is 60% and only 2 attempts per module are allowed. All modules are available for two years and then archived automatically. The author who has contributed a module will also be awarded 2 CME points.
