The Academy regularly organises congresses and scientific meetings to enhance the continuing professional development of specialists in Singapore. Members can also sign into their accounts on AMSLearning for access to resources including the Mandatory Medical Ethics (MME CME) modules and the Ethics Self Assessment Exercise (ESAE).

Mandatory Medical Ethics CME Modules [MME CME]

The Singapore Medical Council (SMC) announced in a circular on 11 May 2023, that all doctors from 2026 onwards must acquire 5 Mandatory Medical Ethics (MME) CME core points before they can renew their Practising Certificate (PCs). Registered doctors are advised to start accumulating core points for MME CME from 1 January 2024 (for PCs ending on 31 December 2023). Click here for SMC's CME requirements.

The Academy has launched its first batch of Cat 3B Self-Learning MME CME modules on Medical Ethics that qualify for such MME core points from 6 February 2024 with the 2nd batch of modules on 16 December 2024.
As part of your members’ privilege, Fellows and members in good standing will be able to attempt these modules at no cost. (1) When should I start accumulating my MME CME Points?

Doctors whose PCs are expiring on 31 December 2025 can start accumulating the required Medical Ethics Core points in the CME qualifying periods (QP) from 2024/2025 as shown in the table below.

If PCs end on 31 December 2024 [2-year PC start on 1 Jan 2025]	Doctors can accumulate the required Medical Ethics core points from 1 January 2025 to 31 December 2026 [need to accumulate 5 Mandatory Medical Ethics (MME) points over the next 24 months from 1 Jan 2025]
	For doctors who renew their PCs two yearly, 5 core points for medical ethics are required; and For those who wish to renew for only one year, 3 core points are required.

(2) What topics are covered in the Medical Ethics CME?

While there are various topics on Medical Ethics by other providers which can be accrued for general CME points, doctors must complete CME under the following four core areas below and organised by AMS, CFPS and SMA to be eligible for Medical Ethics core points.

(3) I am not a member of AMS, can I participate in the Medical Ethics CME?

Yes you can.

Non-members are welcome to register, pay and access the modules. Upon payment, you have one month access to AMS Learning to complete the module. All payment is non-refundable.

Currently, AMS is only offering 3 - 5 self-learning modules under the MME CME programme. Doctors may participate in Medical Ethics events or distance learning programmes (DLPs) in the following categories:

You need to ensure that you are within the MME cycle qualifying period to accumulate MME points before attempting any modules.

Treatment-resistant depression remains a major public health challenge. This randomized, double-blind Phase 3 clinical trial aims to evaluate whether individualised connectome-guided localization improves the antidepressant efficacy of accelerated intermitten theta burst stimulation (iTBS) in an Asian population. By directly comparing individualised connectome-guided versus anatomically guided accelerated iTBS, this study will provide the first Asian-based validation of precision-guided neromodulation for depression and inform future clinical practice and policy in personalized psychiatry.
