The Academy of Medicine, Singapore extends its heartiest congratulations to Assistant Master (Academic Affairs), Professor Wong Tien Yin, for being elected as a lifetime member of the National Academy of Medicine (NAM) in the United States.

 

Professor Wong is the third Singaporean to be elected as a member of NAM. The NAM membership recognises individuals who have made major contributions to the advancement of medical sciences, healthcare and public health, and is considered one of the highest honours in the fields of health and medicine. Every year, about 5-8 members are elected globally into NAM.

 

Professor Wong is being recognised for his significant contributions in “defining the global prevalence and risk factors for the major eye diseases and devising strategies to implement screening and disease prevention through the use of telemedicine and innovative imaging; and for leadership in developing academic pathways for clinician-scientists.”

 

His research work is recognised nationally and internationally. He has published more than 1,000 peer-reviewed papers and has also won numerous awards, including the National Outstanding Clinician Scientist Award, the President’s Science Award and the President’s Science and Technology Award, for healthcare and scientific contribution in Singapore.
