The Chapter of Family Medicine Physicians created history on 25 October 2014 when 24 of its members were being conferred at the Academy’s second Induction Comitia held at the Health Promotion Board, Singapore.  Mrs Tan Ching Yee, Permanent Secretary for Health, graced the occasion as the Guest-of-Honour.

In her address, Mrs Tan remarked that the recent formation of the Chapter of Family Medicine Physicians was timely to assist with the growing needs of the greying population in Singapore.  She added that the Ministry of Health values the holistic care provided by the family physicians whose practice is defined by its breadth and patient-centricity.

“Based on training and assessment criteria, these Family Medicine Physicians have already fulfilled the entry criteria to be Fellows of our Academy. However, I wish to point out that Family Medicine is not only an important field of medicine in Singapore but an integral part of our healthcare system,” said Prof Lim Shih Hui, Master of the Academy, in his address.

A total of 66 family medicine physicians joined the Academy in 2014.
