The Academy held its first Induction Comitia for the year on 28 March at the Academia @ SingHealth. The event was graced by Dr Lam Pin Min, Minister of State for Health, Ministry of Health, Singapore.
 

At the start of the ceremony, Master of the Academy Dr Lim Shih Hui led the observance of a one-minute silence in memory of Mr Lee Kuan Yew, who was conferred Honorary Fellowship of the Academy in 1975.   In his message, Dr Lim also paid tribute to A/Prof Appasamy Vijayan, President-Elect of the College of Surgeons.

A total of 92 Fellows were formally admitted into the Academy that afternoon. Dr Lam Pin Min, who was also conferred Fellowship of the Academy the same afternoon, said in his address: “The Ministry of Health welcomes a flourishing, progressive Academy to strengthen its role in shaping the healthcare of Singapore, and will continue to seek professional advice and expert opinions from the Academy to guide national thinking and health policies.”

Dr Lam commended on the Academy’s foresight in training clinical educators and the setting up of the Chapter of Clinician Educators which recently embarked on a two-year part-time Master of Health Professions Education programme with the Maastricht University.

In addition, Dr Lam also highlighted on the Academy’s advocacy initiative for family medicine with the formation of the Chapter of Family Medicine Physicians.  He said that this is an important development as the Ministry seeks to heighten the awareness and importance of family medicine and to integrate community and institutional care in the Regional Health Systems.

The Induction Comitia also witnessed the graduation of eleven trainees who have successfully completed their diplomas under the Staff Registrar Scheme.  They were graduates from the Diploma in Emergency Medicine, Diploma in Internal Medicine (with Focus on Hospital Medicine), Diploma in Neonatology, Diploma in Orthopaedic Surgery, Diploma in Paediatric Cancer Care, Diploma in Paediatrics & Child Health.
