The Academy of Medicine (Singapore), Chapter of Family Medicine Physicians Annual Tea Symposium 2025 was held on 20th September 2025 at One Farrer Hotel.
Primary care is the cornerstone of sustainable health systems, and Family Medicine develops the science to support it. FM specialists are system leaders—aligning teams, safeguarding continuity, and ensuring care remains person-centred and professionally robust. This year’s symposium was especially meaningful, as it marked the first since Family Medicine was formally recognised as a specialty—a milestone that reflects how far we have come in strengthening whole-person and community-based care in Singapore. The theme, “Caring Whole, Living Well: Whole-Person and Community Approaches to Lifelong Health,” was brought to life through an inspiring afternoon of learning, reflection and fellowship.
We were privileged to be joined by over 50 prominent Family Physicians, many of whom are leaders, educators, and innovators in their fields. Their presence and active participation created a vibrant platform for dialogue, reinforcing our shared vision of advancing Family Medicine as a cornerstone of Singapore’s healthcare system.
The symposium featured insightful presentations on advanced chronic kidney disease, lifestyle medicine in rheumatological disorders, pneumococcal vaccination and the use of behavioural sciences in chronic disease management. These discussions underscored the evolving role of Family Physicians as champions of preventive care, stewards of chronic disease management and advocates of integrated, patient-centred healthcare, which are values fully aligned with the aspirations of Healthier SG.
What stood out most was the sense of solidarity in the room. The engagement of our colleagues, the thoughtful questions and the sharing of practical experiences highlighted the collective wisdom of our community. It reminded us that while Family Medicine is now officially recognised as a specialty, its true strength lies in the dedication and collaboration of its practitioners.
I am deeply grateful to our distinguished speakers, A/Prof Manohar Gilliyar Bairy, Dr Koh Li Wearn, Dr Ray Lin and A/Prof Clive Tan for sharing their expertise, to our partners and sponsors for their unwavering support and to the organising committee for their hard work in making this event a success. Most importantly, I thank my fellow Family Physicians. Your daily commitment to patients and communities continues to inspire!
As we look ahead, let us build on the momentum from this symposium. Together, we can chart new pathways for Family Medicine—anchored in compassion, innovation and excellence, so that we may continue to provide care that is truly whole and enables our people to live well.
